Wall, a Dayton attorney, was instrumental in the founding of the Miami Valley Golf Association and has served on the board of the Ohio Golf Association since 1987. He was OGA president from 1998-2009.
Wall is a longtime member of Moraine Country Club. His service to Moraine includes four years as president, 12 years on the board of governors and seven years on the men’s golf committee. He is the current green committee chairman and general counsel.
An excellent player in years past, he was the Deeds Cup champion in 1973 and the club champion in 1977.
Campbell, who died in 1942, was born in Troon, Scotland, and came to Dayton in 1925 to serve as golf professional at Miami Valley Golf Club. At Miami Valley he tutored five-time Ohio Amateur champion Bob Servis and Ohio women’s champion Janet Shock Beardsley.
Campbell was hired to design the Moraine Country Club course in 1929. He also designed Madden Golf Course, the first nine at Meadowbrook Country Club, Northmoor, Eaton Country Club and Miamisburg’s Mound course.
Metcalfe, the 1976 Ohio Amateur champion, won 25 club championships and seven club senior titles. He was the Cincinnati Metropolitan champion twice.
Kern wins in Loveland
Playing in the boys 14-18 division, 15-year-old Matt Kern of Springboro finished first in the Southern Ohio PGA Junior Tour tournament May 22 at Hickory Woods Golf Course in Loveland.
Kern birdied three of the last six holes to post an even-par 70 and win by two strokes. Brandon Johnson of Englewood shot 74 to tie for fifth, and Derek Cobb of Urbana tied for seventh with a 76.
Match Play deadline
Entries for the 2010 Dayton Men’s Match Play Championship must be received by 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 2.
The four-day tournament at Kittyhawk Golf Center will be held on the Hawk and Eagle courses during the next two weekends, June 5-6 and 12-13.
An 18-hole qualifying round will be played on the Hawk course on June 5. The first round of match play will be on the Eagle course. A $75 entry fee covers greens fees for at least two rounds, range balls and lunch for two rounds. The fee does not include riding cart rental.
Girls Clinic at Rollandia
The 13th annual Get A Girl Golfing clinic will be held June 18 at Rollandia Golf Center. Coaches Therese Hession of Ohio State University and Sally Kosters of the University of Dayton will serve as clinicians along with OSU assistant Amy Langhals Miller and Diana Schwab, winner of many Dayton amateur women’s titles.
To participate, one must register by June 8. Registration blanks can be downloaded from the Miami Valley Golf Association website (miamivalleygolf.org).
The clinic begins at 9 a.m. for 8- to 12-year-olds. Registration is at 8:30. The older girls participate in the afternoon.
Participants will receive a pizza lunch, T-shirt and a USGA golf rule book.
Tap-ins
• Kittyhawk will host the third Southern Ohio PGA Junior Tour event of the season on Saturday, June 5. The juniors, ages 9-18 as of July 28, will play on the Hawk and Kitty courses, beginning at noon. The field is full.
• Golfers will have an opportunity to test the new TaylorMade clubs at Yankee Trace in Centerville on June 5 at 10 a.m.
• Titleist will have its equipment at Kittyhawk on June 11 from 3 to 7 p.m., and Callaway returns to Heatherwoode from 4 to 7 p.m. on June 14.
