Smith intends to remain in a dual position of Director of Athletics for Activities Beyond the Classroom/Athletic Director at Cincinnati Withrow High School. A Jefferson High School graduate and former Broncos girls basketball coach, Smith spent 12 years as the Dayton Public Schools director of athletics from 2004-16.

“I feel blessed and highly favored. I just finished up my 23rd year as an AD and I believe my record speaks for itself. I have been an advocate for children my entire career.

“I have accomplished a lot throughout the years such as being nationally certified as an AD, being a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Southwest District Athletic Board from 2011-16, the OHSAA (board of directors) from 2013-15, serving as (the Southwest District) president from 2014-15, and I still serve at the state level on the OHSAA Foundation Board of Trustees, Competitive Balance Committee and Diversity Committee.

“I want to make it very clear that I was not out looking for a new job. I am extremely happy in Cincinnati as the Director of Athletics for Activities Beyond the Classroom/Athletic Director for Withrow High School which I will continue. I received several calls from people in the Dayton area including people in Huber Heights asking me to apply for the AD position at (Wayne), which I did not do until the very last day of the posting.
