This is the 50th year of operation for the Twin Base course, which opened to serve the civilian work force in 1963 when Prairie Trace was known as the Officer’s Club course and open only to military personnel.
The Twin Base course was designed by William Diddel of Indianapolis, who also was the architect for Greene Country Club and designed nine holes each at Meadowbrook and Walnut Grove. The head pros at Twin Base have been Carl Brush (1963-65), Mike Stapleton (1966-68), Ed Corrigan (1969-75), Bill Kumle (1976-91) and Schweibold (1992-2013).
Kumle said Twin Base was the first self-sufficient military course at a time when the others all were subsidized.
