Reds prospect Greene pitches Dragons past Lake County

The Dragons broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning on back-to-back doubles by Alejo Lopez and Jeter Downs to make it 1-0. In the top of the ninth, Leandro Santana belted a solo home run to straightaway center field to make it 2-0. The homer was Santana’s sixth of the season.

Cory Thompson replaced Greene and pitched a perfect eighth inning. Thompson went back to the mound for the ninth with a 2-0 lead and allowed a lead-off double to J.J. Berardi to bring the tying run to the plate. He got Nolan Jones to line out to right field for the second out before Jose Medina singled to left to drive in Berardi and make it a 2-1 game. That brought the Captains best hitter to the plate, Oscar Gonzalez, with the tying run at first and two outs. Thompson struck out Gonzalez on a pitch in the dirt. Dragons catcher Hendrik Clementina threw to first to complete the out and when his throw was wide of the bag, first baseman Montrell Marshall made a long stretch to record the putout and end the game. Thompson picked up his fourth save.

The Dragons finished with just five hits. Lopez was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

Notes: The Dragons are 3-2 on their six-game road trip that will conclude on Tuesday night…Dragons shortstop Jose Garcia was ejected from the game in the fourth inning by the plate umpire. Over the last four games, four Dragons players have been ejected after the club went the first 76 games of the season without having a player ejected. Garcia was replaced in the lineup by Santana, who provided the big home run in the top of the ninth inning.
