High school football: Valley View hires new coach

Valley View football will have a new coach again this fall.

The school district announced Thursday that Matt King has been selected the new coach pending approval of the board of education.

“I am excited for the opportunity to lead the Valley View football program and help these young men reach their potential now and into the future,” King said.

King is a math teacher at Valley View and has been on the football staff for the past seven years. Before that, he was an assistant at Bellefontaine.

He was associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator and linebackers coach for the Spartans in addition to coordinating the team’s strength and conditioning program.

A 2006 DeGraff Riverside grad, King played linebacker at Defiance College and graduated with a degree in integrated mathematics.

The Spartans went 5-6 last season and lost to Waverly in the first round of the playoffs under coach Ken Moyer, who was a hired last March after long-time Valley View staffer Bob Skidmore resigned.

They finished third in the SWBL West division with a 4-3 mark.
