High School Football: Week Three Roundup

Kevin Johnson’s third touchdown run came with in the final minute, pushing Xenia past Franklin 27-20 in a Friday night football thriller.

The winning drive started with 2 ½ minutes to play after Franklin booted a 30-yard game-tying field goal.

Andrew Pollander had a 30-yard run to push Xenia into Franklin territory before Johnson ran in the winning score from 24 yards out.

Johnson finished with 160 yards and three touchdowns on ten carries, Pollander added 24 carries for 144 yards and Xenia racked up 395 yards on the ground.

Gage Johnson and Braden Woods each had a rushing score to lead Franklin.

Xenia improved to 2-1; Franklin fell to 2-1.

OTHER GAMES

Alter 14, Belfry (KY) 0: Alter scored a pair of second-half touchdowns to defeat Belfry, the second-ranked 3A team in Kentucky. The victory moved Alter to 3-0 with a trip to Col. DeSales on the schedule for next week.

Badin 27, Edgewood 0: Alex Delong rumbled for 233 yards with three touchdowns and Zach Switzer linked up with Marshal Flaig on a TD pass to lead Badin, which held Edgewood to 113 total yards.

Butler 57, Wilmington 29: Bobby Buckler and Luke Mitchell accounted for four touchdowns apiece as Butler pulled away in the second half after a back-and-forth start. Wilmington returned a pair of kickoffs for scores to get back in the game after Butler built up an early lead.

Carroll 37, Indianapolis Washington 12: Trent Fox passed for 338 yards with three touchdowns as Carroll jumped ahead 21-0 in the first half and held on late. Donovan LaJeunesse tallied three receptions for 123 yards with a score and Steven Chapman pulled down five catches for 101 yards with a TD.

Centerville 35, Dunbar 6: Chase Harrison threw four touchdowns, two to Cam Smith, finishing with 287 yards to lead Centerville to its first win. Bryce McMahon racked up 150 yards on the ground and Harrison added a rushing score. Marcellis Thompson returned a fumble 70 yards for Dunbar’s lone TD.

Chaminade Julienne 37, Greenville 16: Marquis Henry carried unbeaten CJ with three touchdown runs, Ryan Minor connected with Kenyon Owens on a passing TD and Quincy Johnson ran in a late score.

Clinton-Massie 28, Fenwick 21: Brendan Lamb scampered in for his fourth touchdown with 47 seconds to play to lead Clinton-Massie past Fenwick. Lamb finished with 35 carries for 224 yards. Braden Listermann threw for 165 yards with two touchdowns to pace Fenwick.

Coldwater 42, Versailles 7: Myles Blasingame scored on TD runs twice in the first quarter to help Coldwater stake an early lead. Zach McKibben added an 87-yard kickoff return for a TD and Josh Hrycko returned a blocked punt 35 yards for a score. Landon Henry rushed for a touchdown for Versailles.

Dayton Christian 36, Ponitz 6: Seth Griswold was 11-of-14 through the air with 132 yards and three touchdowns to go along with 108 yards on the ground in leading Dayton Christian. Reid Wheeler hauled in two touchdowns and Andrew Drier snagged his third interception of the season.

Kenton Ridge 48, Ben Logan 6: Dylan Lemen tossed four touchdowns and ran in two more to pace Kenton Ridge. Calvin Dibert and Drew Miller hauled in two TD passes apiece with Dibert finishing with 109 yards receiving. Kainan Stoner rushed in the lone TD for Ben Logan.

Lakota East 20, Mason 14: Tavier Lugo-Flowers and Josh Thornhill each had a short rushing TD to put Lakota East ahead early and a pair of Gavin Myers field goals in the second half sealed the victory. Lugo-Flowers finished with 140 yards on the ground and Thornhill had 110.

Lebanon 16, West Clermont 6: Keith Farr and Ethan Marsh scored on short rushing touchdowns and Lebanon added a safety to pull out the victory. Kyle Walker hauled in a 19-yard TD pass from Donte Turner Jr. for West Clermont.

Mechanicsburg 47, Catholic Central 0: ‘Burg had consecutive interceptions returned for touchdowns, one each from Noah Wolf and Tristan Hall, while pulling away early. Jake Hurst ran in a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter and Aaron Conley finished 6-of-6 for 100 yards and one TD.

Minster 41, Fort Recovery 20: Alex Schmitmeyer’s three-yard touchdown rush in the second quarter gave Minster the lead for good. Schmitmeyer totaled 261 yards on the ground with four touchdowns. Clay Schmitz threw two touchdowns for Fort Recovery.

National Trail 43, Tri-Village 12: Peyton Lane scored three touchdowns in the second half, highlighted by a 70-yard interception return for a score, to help National Trail pull away and improve to 3-0.

Oakwood 28, Carlisle 7: Adam Polacko passed for two touchdowns and ran in a third to help lead Oakwood to its first win. Matt Flannery and Sam Stack each caught a TD pass and Mikey Duvic ran another one in. Jayden Sweeney scored the lone TD for Carlisle on a run.

Ross 34, Western Brown 7: Jackson Gifford ran in a pair of touchdowns late, Casey Redemeier picked off two passes and Mehki Bouldin, Mitch Ahrens and C.J. Boze each had one rushing TD apiece to pace unbeaten Ross.

Sidney 7, Belmont 0: Sidney took the lead on a fourth-down swing pass from Ryan Dunham to Beau Davis in the third quarter, holding on to pick up its first win.

Springboro 45, Beavercreek 0: Mikey Appel and Landon Palmer combined to pass for 229 yards and three touchdowns in leading unbeaten Springboro. Moise Armbruster tacked on a pair of rushing scores in the first half and the ‘Boro defense limited ‘Creek to 81 total yards.

Springfield Shawnee 49, Thurgood Marshall 0: Matt Guyer ran in a pair of first-half scores and Shawnee pulled away with five unanswered touchdowns in the second half.

Talawanda 44, Eaton 14: Terrell Wills put Talawanda on the board with two early TD runs, Luke Richardson added an 80-yard kickoff return for a score and Talawanda improved to 3-0.

Tippecanoe 20, Fairborn 7: Cade Beam put Tippecanoe ahead early with two short TD runs and Boston College commit Ben Sauls added a pair of long field goals, including a school record 55-yarder, to put the game out of reach. Garison Secrest connected with Dwight Lewis on a three-yard pass for Fairborn’s only score.

West Liberty-Salem 63, Southeastern 14: Trevor Woodruff tossed three touchdowns, Holden Nease ran in three more and Trent Barry tacked on a kickoff return for a TD as WLS jumped out to a 49-0 lead at the half. Wade Eriksen ran in both of Southeastern’s scores.
