Miltenberger spent three seasons on the Lemon-Monroe football team as a quarterback and linebacker.
After serving as the backup quarterback during his sophomore season, Miltenberger took over as the starter as a junior and compiled a record of 19-1 during the next two seasons. As a senior, Miltenberger was team co-captain and earned Most Outstanding Hornet and First Team All-Mid-Miami League honors while leading the Hornets to a 10-0 record and an MML championship.
“It was great being undefeated,” Miltenberger said.
Miltenberger also spent time on the Lemon-Monroe basketball, baseball and boys golf teams and earned varsity letters in each sport. During his junior season, Miltenberger led the basketball team in assists while averaging 13.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
Today
After graduating from Lemon-Monroe in 1970, Miltenberger attended Michigan State, where he played four years of football and one year of basketball.
“It was a great school with great facilities and a very pretty campus,” Miltenberger said.
Miltenberger earned his degree in business from Michigan State in 1974 and went to work from IBM, where he remained for 34 years before retiring in February 2009.
“It was so big and diverse that it gave me the opportunity to go in different directions when my interests changed,” Miltenberger said. “I was able to do several things there, which kept my interest and kept me motivated.”
Miltenberger was inducted into Monroe’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
“It was very much an honor to be inducted,” Miltenberger said. “I felt proud to be a Hornet.”
Miltenberger resides in West Chester Twp. with his wife, Connie. The couple has two children and one grandchild.
