Benzinger is in his first year as manager of the Dayton Dragons minor league baseball team.
The vacant position will be posted this week, but in the meantime, assistant coach Nikki Drew, the former head coach at Colerain, will be the interim head coach.
“We’d like to get the best person in place as soon as possible,” Bryant said. “That will only help the girls and the program.”
Bryant hopes to have a new coach in place in the next two weeks.
“I appreciate the timing of it,” Bryant said of Benzinger’s resignation. “The girls are still in a dead period in basketball in the month of August. We hope to have a coach in place so the program and the girls won’t miss a beat.”
The Thunderhawks were 5-17 overall and 2-12 in the Greater Miami Conference this past season in Benzinger’s only season at the helm.
Benzinger could not be immediately reached for comment.
