Book tells history of Talawanda football

OXFORD — All the memories of the Talawanda High School varsity football program have been compiled in one place: A new book “Talawanda Football: A History from 1956-2010.”

“There are stats from the very first game up to the most recent,” said Andrew Zimmerman, a Talawanda alumnus and now an assistant coach for the football team, who compiled all the information for the book.

Zimmerman got most of the material from Marvin Wilhelm and John Trump, the first two coaches of the Talawanda football team. They contributed old stat books and information they had kept over the years.

“I just took his notes, typed them up and made everything look nice,” Zimmerman said. “I think this book is important for the kids coming up in the school because it allows them to appreciate where we came from and understand what we’ve been through.”

Some of these things include just how good or bad teams have been in the past and shows seasons when Talawanda made the playoffs or did other special things. With the new high school coming soon, it is also a way to remember the games played on the old field. “My favorite picture is on the cover from the first night game ever in 1960,” Zimmerman said. “There are a ton of other pictures included, too.”

The book is available for $15. To purchase the book, call the Talawanda Athletic Office at (513)273-3205 or email Zimmermana@talawanda.org.
