Dunbar plays Lake Catholic in the D-II state semifnals at 10:45 a.m. Thursday. St. Clairsville and Elida play in the second semifinal at 2 p.m.
Franklin’s Brian Bales was quad-coach of the year in D-II along with Mark Chicone of Mentor Lake Catholic, Larry Kukura of Alliance and Kirk Lehman of Defiance.
Bales guided the Wildcats to a 20-0 regular season. Franklin lost to Thurgood Marshall 68-55 in a sectional final.
Akbar was the lone area player to make the D-II first, second or third team for All-Ohio honors.
Chaminade Julienne senior John Staley, Valley View sophomore Zack Denny and Franklin freshman Luke Kennard were all named special mention.
Dunbar senior Andre Yates, Urbana senior Zach Stillings and Franklin junior Travis Lakins were named honorable mention.
No area players made the first, second or third teams in D-I.
Springboro junior Maverick Morgan was named special mention, and Beavercreek junior Jalen Camper and Lebanon junior Ben Esposito were honorable mention selections.
Columbus Northland’s Jalen Robinson, Toledo St. John’s Marc Loving and Mentor’s Justin Fritts were D-I players of the year.
Norwalk’s Steve Gray and Powell Olentangy Liberty’s Greg Nossaman were named D-I coaches of the year.
The Division III and Division IV boys teams will be released today.
Mr. Basketball will be announced on Wednesday.
The selections were based on the recommendations of a media panel.
