Steve Channell
TRENTON — Edgewood High School football coach Steve Channell had double the reason to celebrate last Friday night.
The Cougars won their first home game of the season with a 34-27 triumph over Northwest. The win also was the 150th of Channell’s long career.
“It was a very proud moment,” said Channell, whose career record is 150-78 in 21 years as a head coach, all of it with Edgewood. “It puts into perspective all the players and coaches who have been part of this program because none of this would have been possible without them. It is really a program achievement.
“I think the thing I’m proudest of is it all has happened at Edgewood,” he continued. “With the way sports are nowadays, to stay at one school your whole career isn’t that common anymore, so I’m very proud it happened at Edgewood.”

Senior place-kicker Aaron Kimbrough booted a 35-yard field in the second quarter of the Middies’ 38-2 win over Greater Miami Conference host Fairfield on Friday night.
