HAMILTON — Hamilton High School football coach Bob Jacoby has been named the Associated Press’ Ohio Division I co-Coach of the Year.
In his first year as Big Blue coach, Jacoby led HHS to a 7-3 regular season and the program’s first playoff berth in nine years.
“I take it as a reflection on how our staff and players worked together to achieve a really good season,” Jacoby said. “We had a lot of positive things happen, and I want to keep it going in the same direction. I’m just so appreciative of what our whole community has done to help me get off on the right foot.”
Prior to Jacoby’s arrival, Hamilton went 2-8 in 2009 and posted just one winning season since its last playoff berth in 2001. After a 3-2 start this year, Jacoby led Big Blue to victories in four of their final five games to help Hamilton earn just its fourth playoff berth in school history.
“This award is a tremendous honor that is an outstanding reflection of the quality of coach Bob is,” HHS athletic director Mike Dellapina said. “We’re extremely proud and fortunate to have him as our coach.”
Lakewood St. Edward’s Rick Finotti was the other co-Coach of the Year in the voting done by a statewide panel of media members.
Huber Heights Wayne quarterback Braxton Miller was selected as the Division I Offensive Player off the Year, and Springfield linebacker Trey DePriest was picked as the Division I Defensive Player of the Year.
