CINCINNATI – Sparked by a five-run fifth inning and the right arm of junior Blake Wilder, the Lakota East High School baseball team beat Vandalia Butler 7-0 in the Division I regional championship game Saturday afternoon at the University of Cincinnati’s Marge Schott Stadium.

The win advances the Thunderhawks (22-7) to their first state tournament in school history, where they will face Grove City at 1 p.m. Thursday at Huntington Park in Columbus.

Jesse Rait went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the East offense, which also stole eight bases.

Wilder threw a complete-game shutout to improve to 5-0 and extend the pitching staff’s streak of consecutive scoreless innings to 34.
