Prep briefs from Thursday's games

BOYS SOCCER

HAMILTON 1, BADIN 1: The game goes in the record books as a tie, but because the Blue-Green Trophy was on the line the coaches agreed to do penalty kicks and the referees stayed to oversee it. Hamilton’s Jake Binegar stopped two penalty kicks to clinch the trophy for Big Blue. Badin’s goal came on an own goal, while Hamilton got its score from Cabral Christian off an assist from Jordan Weislogel. The tie moved Hamilton’s record to 4-6-5, while Badin moved to 5-8-2.

LAKOTA EAST 0, LAKOTA WEST 0: The Thunderhawks’ Evan Peul and the Firebirds’ Robert Hasselfeld each recorded nine saves for the double shutout Thursday night at Hopewell Stadium. It was Senior Night for the 12 seniors at East. The Thunderhawks (8-1-5 overall, 4-1-3 Greater Miami Conference) return to action Saturday at home against Walnut Hills, while the Firebirds (7-5-2, 5-2-1) will play at Colerain on Saturday.

GIRLS SOCCER

ROSS 3, TALAWANDA 1: The Rams capped a perfect run through the Fort Ancient Valley Conference West Division with Thursday night’s victory. Taylor Ahrens, Courtney Young and Danielle Bogolo each scored for Ross (11-3-1, 7-0 FAVC West), while Megan Strickland had two assists and Amanda Hagedorn had one. Anna Hall recorded four saves in goal. Rachel Ball had the lone goal for Talawanda (6-4-5, 2-2-3 FAVC West). Ross returns to action Saturday at home against Glen Este.

LAKOTA WEST 6, COLERAIN 0: Senior Alex Azeez scored a hat trick in her final regular-season home game as the Firebirds blanked the Cardinals on Thursday. Lauren Pratt, Louise Palhed and Ashea Bell also scored, and Claire Kozlowski recorded the shutout in goal to help West improve to 11-5 overall and 8-1in the Greater Miami Conference. Colerain fell to 9-4-2, 4-4-1. Adding assists were Shabazz Reeves, Megan Cravenor, Pratt (two) and Azeez. The Firebirds open tournament play Wednesday at home against Harrison.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN 3, SEVEN HILLS 0: The Cougars capped a fourth consecutive undefeated Miami Valley Conference season with a 25-10, 25-18, 25-19 triumph at Seven Hills on Thursday. Leading the way for CCS (16-5 overall, 13-0 MVC) were Katie Bandenberg (20 assists, two digs, five aces), Melissa Baab (five kills, two aces), Dani Rodulfo (seven kills), Anna Wolford (six aces) and Ana Richter (two blocks, four kills).

CINCINNATI HILLS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 3, NEW MIAMI 0: The Vikings fell by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-18 Thursday night. It was Senior Night at New Miami, and Heather Thacker, Alyssa Rison and Lacey Harper were honored before the match. During the match, they combined for seven service points, 11 kills, 13 digs and a block). Kristen Hacker added seven service points, three aces and five digs for the Vikings, who fell to 5-14 overall and 1-12 in the Miami Valley Conference. The team returns to action Monday at Miami Valley Christian Academy.

URSULINE 3, LAKOTA WEST 0: The Firebirds fell to the unbeaten Lions 25-23, 25-13, 25-19 in the final regular-season game for both teams. The loss dropped West to 18-4, while Ursuline improved to 22-0. The Firebirds open tournament play Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Withrow against the Western Hills-Hughes winner.

NORWOOD 3, EDGEWOOD 1: The Cougars played a tight, four-game match on Senior Night, eventually falling to the visiting Indians 25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20. The three seniors who were honored all played well in their final home match — Mariah Cox (four digs), Suzanne Frizell (seven kills), Erin Sharp (nine kills).
