GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

TALAWANDA 3, NORTHWEST 0:

The Braves improved to 7-9 overall, 6-1 in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference, with a 26-24, 29-27, 25-22 victory over Northwest on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Talawanda was led by Casey Baxter-Wilms, 23 digs; Chloe Hansel, 18 assists; Lydia Dysart, eight kills and six blocks; and Maggie Johnson, eight kills and 16 digs.

GIRLS TENNIS

TALAWANDA CLINCHES FAVC CROWN:

The Braves swept through the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Scarlet Division Tournament, winning all five matches in the finals, to clinch the league title after finishing first during the regular season. Winning for Talawanda were Stephanie McCabe at first singles, Harling Wespiser at second singles, Nuria Alisho-Caballero at third singles, Kelsey Listerman and Karly Kimiecik at first doubles and Sarah Julian and Lindsey Christ at second doubles.

BOYS GOLF

BADIN FINISHES SIXTH AT SECTIONAL:

The Rams’ season ended Wednesday, Sept. 30, with a sixth-place finish at the Division II sectional tournament at Pipestone Golf Course. Badin was led by Tyler Hammerle with an 84. He was involved in a four-way playoff for the final two individual berths to next week’s district tournament, but missed out on the second playoff hole. Hammerle was followed by teammates Austin Sandor, 89, and Jake Fetters, 91. Oakwood won the team title with a score of 299, and the other three team qualifiers were Alter (305), Fenwick (340) and Chaminade Julienne (344). Badin finished with a 362.

HAMILTON 170, PRINCETON 174: Danny Moorehead shot a 5-over-par 41 on Wednesday on the Miami Whitewater front nine to lead Big Blue, who improved to 5-8. Nick Spurlock, Ryan Smith and Steven Moore each shot 43. Hamilton will play Elder on Monday, Oct. 5, at Miami Whitewater.

TALAWANDA 158, FAIRFIELD WHITE 182: The Braves boosted their record to 13-2 on Wednesday at the Indian Ridge front nine and were led by Willy Davidge with a 37, followed by teammates Austin Thome, 38; Tyler Schuppie, 41; and Joe Bigler, 42. Fairfield's Curtis Olvey shot 42.

ROSS CAPTURES SHARE OF FAVC SCARLET:

With their perfect regular-season mark against Fort Ancient Valley Conference Scarlet Division foes and a runner-up finish Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the conference tournament, Ross won a share of its first league title since 1980. The Rams were 5-0 in duals this season against FAVC Scarlet competition. The FAVC uses a points system from the regular season and tournament to determine its league champ.

FAIRFIELD 189, MIDDLETOWN 196:

The Indians (10-6) were led by medalist Lindsey Mapes, who shot a 41 at the Fairfield Greens back nine on Wednesday. She was followed by teammate Kayla Hann (46).
