Kenton history: The Wildcats of the Western Buckeye League swept the 2001-02 state titles and were runners-up in ’03.

Norwayne history: This is the Bobcats’ first state title game and just their third playoff appearance.

Kenton stars: QB Maty Mauk is 355 of 516 passing for 4,992 yards, 63 TDs and 13 INTs. WR Justin Sawmiller has 129 catches for 1,731 yards and 19 TDs.

Norwayne stars: QB Adam Wallace is 144 of 231 passing for 2,677 yards, 36 TDs and 8 INTs. RB Jon Zimmerly has 1,038 yards rushing and 15 TDs.

Extra points: Mauk is the son of coach Mike Mauk and this season’s Mr. Football. Maty has broken most of older brother Ben’s national records and is easily the most prolific passer Ohio has produced. He’ll take his game to Missouri. Norwayne is a Wayne County League member and is capable of scoring in bunches, having tallied 40 or more points nine times.
