Springboro needs late-inning heroics to beat Xenia

Springboro’s baseball team scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to squeak past Xenia, 4-3, on Tuesday.

Trailing 3-0 heading in to the final inning, Ben Beachy led with a double and later scored on a fielder’s choice. Cody Pelfrey’s two-out triple plated two to tie the game. After an intentional walk to put runners on the corner, Pelfrey scampered home on a double-steal attempt for the go-ahead run.

Reliever Daniel Olsen put two runners aboard in the bottom of the seventh, but left them stranded to earn the save. Springboro remains undefeated at 5-0, while Xenia falls to 3-2.

Urbana 2, Graham 1, 10 inn.: Justin LeVan had the winning hit in the bottom of the 10th. Devin Burnside led Urbana (2-1) with three hits.

Tri-County North 11, Franklin-Monroe 1: Austin Hutchins fell a home run shy of the cycle and drove in five for the Panthers. Nic Gray struck out 7 in four innings in the win.

Bethel 2, Ansonia 0: Jordam Elam tossed a 1-hit shutout, striking out nine.

Troy 6: Piqua 0: Ben Langdon struck out seven as he held the Indians to one hit. Kevin McGraw had three hits and 3 RBIs.

Anna 10, Houston 0: Four Anna pitchers combined for a no-hitter.
