It was the second straight week the Wildcats lost an opponent for COVID-19 reasons. A game at Fairfield in Week 2 was cancelled on Aug. 26, just one day before it was scheduled to be played.
Springfield had more time this week to find a game but saw other possible opponents in similar situations match up before finding itself an opponent. Alter will play at Miamisburg. Dublin Coffman will play Cincinnati Princeton. All four of those teams were unable to play their original opponents.
In Week 1, Springfield rallied late in the fourth quarter to beat Saint Ignatius 24-20.
Lima Senior is also 1-0. It beat Bowsher 60-0 in its season opener.
COVID-19 problems forced Lima Senior to cancel its Week 2 game against Toledo Rogers, and it also had to cancel its originally scheduled game against Mansfield Senior this Friday. The decision to cancel this Friday’s game was made last week. Lima Senior then requested to play Springfield on Saturday, Springfield Athletic Director Michael Dellapina said.
Lima Senior was 1-5 last season and won a total of six games the last three seasons. Its last winning season came in 2016 when it was 6-4. Springfield beat Lima Senior 35-28 that season.
