“But with the performances we had today, we really can’t complain,” he said. “(Jake) Kasperski (winner of the mile and two-mile events), Jake Simpkins (runner-up in the 800), Joe Lang (third in the 200), they did great jobs for us today. And Justin Griffiths set a school record in the triple jump today.
“This was a good meet for us as we get ready for the league meet next week,” he said.
Griffiths bettered his previous best record distance by a foot (36 feet, 5 1/4 inches) to finish fourth.
Behind TVS and Valley View, Monroe, host Madison and Oakwood rounded out the boys top five.
Coach Tara Keating’s girls squad easily outdistanced Madison for the girls team trophy. Her Spartans racked up a meet-high 142.25 points to runner-up Madison’s 126, and Tessa Parks was named the female track athlete of the meet.
Parks won the long jump with a season-best leap of 16-11.5, and she turned in personal-best times of 12.3 seconds to win the 100-meter dash and 26.1 in the 200.
“I was excited about that,” Parks said. “I swam for a club team (Kettering YMCA) over the offseason and I think that has really had a lot to do with the success I’m having in track this season. Swimming gave some confidence and God gave me the talent to do this.”
Other local winners on the girls’ side were Preble Shawnee’s Valerie Johnson (shot put), Madison’s 400 relay team, plus Cortney Cobb (pole vault), Sarah Chaney (triple jump) and Allison Bundy (100 hurdles), Valley View’s 3,200 relay team and Shelby Tenney (800 run), and Fenwick’s Alyssa Zearly (300 hurdles).
Boys winners included Monroe’s 800 and 1,600 relay teams, fellow Hornets Joe Farrish (discus), LaMar Hodges (110 hurdles) and Ben Leahy (400), Valley View’s Matt Tegtmeyer (shot put) and the Spartan 3,200 relay team, Madison’s 400 relay team and Cody Martini (pole vault and 200), and Fenwick speedster Joey Robertson (100).
A boys athlete of the meet had not yet been determined, though Jacob Hemmelgarn of boys champion Twin Valley South led all athletes with his wins in the high jump, long jump, triple jump and 300 hurdles.
