Felder, a 5-foot-11 junior, scored a career-high 32 points — 26 in the second half — as host Xenia defeated Miamisburg, 96-76. The win keeps Xenia (8-2) alive in the race for the South Division title in the Greater Western Ohio Conference.
The Bucs are 4-1 in GWOC South play. Springboro (10-1) leads at 5-0.
The loss, for all practical purposes, eliminated the Burg (6-4, 2-3) from contention for the championship in the South.
Felder was 2-for-6 shooting in the first half.
“Miamisburg did a good job of getting out on all of our 3-point shooters and contesting shots,” Xenia coach Kent Anderson said. “But we really pushed the pace and I think they had tired legs the second half.
“That allowed us to play a little faster and get Drew the ball before they could get anyone on him. That’s the best shooting night he’s ever had, even in junior high or reserves.”
In the second half, Felder, whose previous career high was 21 points last Friday against Fairborn, was 7-for-7, including 5-for-5 on 3-point tries.
“Some of those shots he made were insane, beyond NBA 3-point range,” marveled Burg coach Tim Fries.
“When a shooter gets in a groove like that, there’s not much you can do to stop him. Just tip your cap and say ‘great night.’ ”
Xenia led 46-42 at the half and gradually extended the lead to 69-54 at the end of the third quarter. John Giles (24) and his brother Adam (13 points) got hot in the fourth quarter to get the Vikings close again.
But each time, Felder answered with a basket or free throws to keep the lead safe.
Marques Greene followed Felder in scoring with 20 points and added nine assists and seven rebounds.
