Gems to play pair of exhibition games

TROTWOOD — The new Dayton Gems of the International Hockey League announced Wednesday they will play two exhibition games at Hara Arena before their inaugural season, including Oct. 8 against the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL.

“The rivalries between Dayton and Toledo at Hara Arena through the years have been the stuff of legend,” Gems president Richard Bruner said. “It’s only fitting.”

The other tuneup takes place Oct. 14 against the Evansville IceMen of the AAHL. The Gems plan to play only their rookies against the single-A team. Evansville is a future IHL member.
