MIddletown's Coffing one of four finalists on reality TV show

Middletown native Carling Coffing is safe once again.

After winning the immunity challenge on Monday night, Aug. 2, on the seventh episode of The Golf Channel’s “Big Break Sandals Resorts,” the 24-year-old is one of the show’s final four contestants.

“I’m proud of myself to be in the top four,” Coffing said Monday night from Harrisburg, Pa., where she is preparing to play in her eighth tournament in nine weeks on the Duramed Futures Tour. “I’m excited to show America I’ve got some game. Now, I’m ready to show them more.”

In the immunity challenge, the players had to hit one shot each from three different locations into a circle on the green. Each successful shot was worth one point with the first player to total three points winning immunity.

“It was huge to win this challenge,” Coffing said. “When I went boom-boom-boom, 1-2-3 points, that was a huge confidence boost. I never thought I’d make it this far.

“All the other players brought 15 pairs of golf shoes and I only brought two,” she continued about the show which was filmed in February at Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, Bahamas. “I just didn’t want to set any expectations of winning the ‘Big Break.’ I’d get too nervous. I just wanted to bring an average amount of clothes and shoes and do my best. Now that I’ve made it this far, I want to go for the gold.”

By winning immunity, Coffing also earned the save/send card meaning she could either send one of her fellow players straight to the elimination challenge, or she could save someone to next week’s show.

Coffing chose to save Taryn Durham and the pair spent the rest of the day at the spa.

“If I sent someone, there’s a good chance they’d be there anyway,” Coffing said. “Taryn has hit some of the best shots on the show and some of the worst. I thought I’d take my chances with that.”

Lili Alvarez and Sara Brown also survived elimination.
