Nine to be added to Lebanon hall of fame

The Lebanon High School athletic hall of fame will add its 12th class on Saturday.

Seven former athletes and two former coaches will be inducted between the reserve and varsity boys basketball game against visiting Loveland. The event should take place at about 7:30 p.m.

The following graduates will be inducted:

  • Sara Baillie VanTassel (2001 graduate): Cross country, basketball, soccer and track and field. Also earned four letters in soccer at Defiance College and three in track. First team all-conference in both sports.
  • Lisa Schaad ('91): A four-year varsity letter winner in volleyball. Two-time team MVP. Held 11 program records. Earned four varsity volleyball letters at Western Kentucky and was captain as a senior.
  • Troy Holtrey ('84): Basketball and track and field. Ended basketball career as No. 5 all-time scorer with 809 points. Three-time all-league high jumper and twice in pole vault. Played basketball two years each at Ohio Northern and Lee (Tenn.) University. Was Springboro's boys varsity basketball coach for 21 years.

  • Ty VanDeGrift ('82): Football, basketball and track and field. Played on eight league-title teams. All-Ohio quarterback/kicker as a senior. Team MVP in track and football. Four-year QB starter at Georgetown (Ky.) and team MVP.
  • Ronnie Fordyce ('76): Football and baseball. A running back, also lettered for three seasons at Ohio Northern University.
  • Tim Pounders ('72): Football, basketball and baseball. Football MVP as a senior. Was All-American center at New Mexico Military Institute Junior College and lettered two seasons at Ohio University.
  • Sheryl Bostick Vorst ('65): Field hockey, basketball, volleyball, tennis and cheerleader.

Excelled in an era before girls sports were recognized by the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Harmon and Holly Hills golf club champion and Lebanon girls basketball coach for seven seasons.

  • John Armstrong: Coached football, basketball and baseball from 1964-76. Also was Lebanon's athletic director. Moved to Kansas and continued coaching in high school and college for another 25 years before retiring in 2005.
  • Tom Hoverman: Coached girls basketball for 23 years, compiling 297 wins, four league and two sectional titles. Also coached football for 13 seasons and was the head coach for two years.
