That does not preclude him from returning to Ohio State for a fourth season, but it does mean he can try to find another place to play this fall.

Johnson was the No. 21 recruit the country and a five-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings for the class of 2018.
The Jacksonville, Fla., native redshirted as a freshman and played 11 games over the past two seasons.
He had five tackles last season and three the year before.
Ohio State has a crowded cornerbacks room but little certainty about how the depth chart will shake out following spring practice.
Veterans Sevyn Banks and Cam Brown were limited while recovering from injuries, creating opportunities for youngsters to gain experience.
2020 signees Ryan Watts and Lejond Cavazos impressed the coaching staff, and defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs said incoming freshmen Jakailin Johnson and Jordan Hancock could jump right into the mix when they arrive this summer.
Coombs said Cam Martinez, another 2020 signee, could play cornerback as well.
Johnson is the fourth Ohio State scholarship player to enter the transfer portal this year, joining receivers Mookie Cooper and Jameson Williams and offensive lineman Max Wray.
