Day is leading the Buckeyes while Urban Meyer is on paid administrative leave and the school investigates how Meyer handled allegations assistant coach Zach Smith abused his wife in 2015.

Here is a summary of Day’s thoughts on the offense, where a new quarterback will be working with a deep and experience group of skill players:
- Dwayne Haskins and Tate Martell have taken the majority of snaps at quarterback while freshman Mathew Baldwin continues his recovery from a torn ACL in high school. Baldwin "won't be 100 percent for another couple of weeks," Day said.
- Running backs J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber both have 1,000-yard seasons under their belt but have impressed the coach with their approach to camp. Freshmen Mater Teague and Brian Snead "have both shown flashes of brilliance" and have bright futures.
- Ohio State returns nearly everyone at receiver, but Day is happy with the development of depth within a position group that is working under interim coach Brian Hartline. Freshmen Chris Olave and Jaelen Gill were highlighted. Hartline, a former standout receiver at OSU, replaced Smith after the latter was fired July 23 amid revelations he had been accused of abusing his former wife on multiple occasions.
- The tight ends have had a productive camp despite Jake Hausmann being sidelined by a hamstring injury for a few practices. Also competing for playing time are Luke Farrell, Rashod Berry and true freshman Jeremy Ruckert.
- Day called Isaiah Prince, Demetrius Knox and Michael Jordan the leaders of the offensive line. Jordan, a starting guard the last two seasons, is taking reps at center along with fifth-year senior Brady Taylor and Josh Myers, a redshirt freshman from Miamisburg. Day said Thayer Munford and Josh Alabi have been competing at left tackle while Malcolm Pridgeon has been "a bright spot" among the guards.
The Buckeyes have reached the midway point of the preseason and will wrap up camp with a scrimmage Saturday, two weeks before the season-opening game against visiting Oregon State.
