About Dayton: Nine of the 10 scholarship players who saw action in the opener scored. Sophomore point guard John Crosby was the only one who didn't. He had four assists. … Darrell Davis is averaging 16.3 points per game in the first game of the season the last three years. He scored 17 points Friday. He scored 17 points in the first game of his freshman season and 15 points in the first game of his sophomore season. He has played in 69 games in his career and is averaging 5.4 points. … Kyle Davis scored two points in the opener on a dunk in the second half. That matched his season low of last season when he twice scored two points. Davis took only two shots. About Alabama: The coach's son, 5-11 sophomore guard Avery Johnson Jr., made his Alabama debut in the opener. He was scoreless in four minutes. Johnson transferred to Alabama from Texas A&M. … Daniel Giddens, a 6-11 center who played last season at Ohio State, is sitting out this season as a transfer. … No Alabama player scored in double figures against Dayton last season. Norris led the team with nine points. Hale, Ingram and Taylor each started in that game. … Alabama lost two starters from last year's team: guard Retin Obasohan, its leading scorer with 17.6 points per game, and guard Arthur Edwards (9.5). Another of its top scorers, Justin Coleman (7.8), transferred to Samford.

Looking ahead: Dayton plays St. Mary's at 2 p.m. Nov. 19 in its next home game. The following week it heads to Anaheim, Calif., to play in the Wooden Legacy tournament.
