Gausman, 28, pitched against the Reds on Friday and allowed five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. That was his last start for Atlanta. He was 3-7 with a 6.19 ERA in 16 starts. He spent time on the injured list in June with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

"Obviously, I'm not having the year that anybody thought I would," Gausman said. "I'm not in the situation I want to be right now."

Gausman, the fourth overall pick in the 2012 draft, made his big-league debut with the Baltimore Orioles in 2013. He’s 47-61 in seven seasons with a 4.30 ERA.
