The Cincinnati Reds have found a replacement for Thom Brennaman.

A little more than four months after Brennaman resigned following 14 seasons with the Fox Sports Ohio broadcast team, the Reds and Fox Sports Ohio hired veteran broadcaster John Sadak, 41, to be their play-by-play announcer on television.

“Cincinnati, I can’t believe it,” said Sadak in a Twitter video. “The chance to call games for your team, for your franchise, it’s been my goal for a long time. I want you to know I recognize, I appreciate, I respect the history and legacy of your team, of your players, your announcers and your championships. Baseball legends have called your city and this team home from the literal start of professional baseball, and I am so honored to have the chance to do the same.”

Sadak most recently worked as a play-by-play announcer for CBS Sports and Westwood One and called New York Mets games for WCBS 880. He has worked NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball games as well as games in college football, basketball and baseball. He spent close to 15 years in Minor League Baseball, including almost a decade with the Advanced-A Wilmington Blue Rocks.

“My family and I are beyond thrilled at this tremendous opportunity,” Sadak said in a press release. “Calling Major League Baseball games full-time has been my career and life goal for many years. The chance to do so for the Cincinnati Reds, a franchise known for its rich, extensive history and passionate, loyal fanbase, is a dream come true. We can’t wait to immerse ourselves in our new home city and ballpark. Baseball’s legendary Opening Day can’t arrive fast enough.”

Brennaman’s time with the Reds ended in August when he was suspended for the use of a gay slur on the air. He apologized but did not return to the job and then resigned in September. He found a new job calling games in Puerto Rico in December.

Sadak, a Rowan University graduate and New York City native, won a national broadcaster of the year award in 2013 when he was with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the New York Yankees organization. Baseball America named him one of the top broadcasting prospects in the minor leagues in 2016.

In 2013, he made the jump to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (New York Yankees) where his work on the RailRiders’ TV and radio broadcasts earned him national Broadcaster of the Year honors from Ballpark Digest. In 2016, Baseball America named him one of the top broadcasting prospects in the minors.

“Watching Reds games is fun and entertaining,” said Phil Castellini, Reds President and COO, in a press release. “John loves baseball, and his excitement for the game comes through every call. His knowledge, experience and warmth will resonate with our fans and we look forward to welcoming John into our Reds family.”
