H.S. Results for 12/28/16: Waynesville tops Miami Valley for title

Rachel Murray scored 20 points Wednesday night to help Waynesville extend its season-opening win streak to 10 by fending off Miami Valley 56-52 to win its own girls basketball holiday tournament.

Marcella Sizer contributed 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Spartans (10-0), and Aubrey Rains added 13 points.

Tia Karras led Miami Valley (8-2) with 22 points.

East Clinton edged Greenon 50-49 in the consolation game.

Girls Basketball

Alter 54, Wayne 51: Alter's Libby Bazelak passed the 1,000-point mark in career scoring as Alter (6-1) rallied in the fourth quarter to win a key game against Wayne (5-2). Bazelak, a senior guard who has signed an NCAA letter-of-intent with Duquesne, scored 17 Wednesday. Braxtin Miller led Alter with 23.

Bellbrook 46, Glen Este 37: Bellbrook improved to 6-2.

Benjamin Logan 76, Mechanicsburg 45: Nikki Current scored 26, Darian Rockhold 13 for Ben Logan, which led 22-7 after the first quarter. Kasey Schipfer and Mikayla Dodane scored 16 each for Mechanicsburg.

Covington 63, Spring. Shawnee 48: Covington is 10-1, thanks to 14 points from Jordan Crowell.

Lebanon 55, Oak Hills 34: Alexis Straw scored 17, Sydney Hanna 15, and Lebanon led 23-5 after one quarter on its way to 8-1.

Piqua 56, Graham 48: Kayla Tullis scored 23, but it wasn't enough to help Graham win.

Ross 33, Harrison 32: Ross picked up its first victory of the season behind Julie Nunn's 15 points.

Trotwood-Madison 56, Thurgood Marshall 51: Trotwood is now 8-1.

Vandalia 38, Oakwood 32: Willow Knight's 12 points helped Vandalia improve to 6-4.

Versailles 62, Anna 46: Kami McEldowney scored 22 for Versailles, Macey Huelskamp 10 for Anna.

Boys Basketball

Alter 44, Columbia Central (Tenn.) 36: Dominic Laravie scored 16 points and Connor Bazelak 8 as Alter (5-1) defeated Columbia Central (2-7) and moved into the championship game of the White Bracket at the King of the Smokies Christmas Classic in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Alter will face Grainger (Tenn.) today at 5 p.m.

Eaton 55, Tri-Village 39: Jacob Stewart (13 points), Trevor Pittman (12) and Daniel Howard (11) led a balanced Eaton attack.

Harrison 51, Ross 40: Drew Banks scored 19 points as Harrison earned its first win of the season. Landen Angel had 16 for Ross.

Indianapolis North Central 81, Springboro 55: UCLA signee Keith Wilkes had 23 points and 12 rebounds for Indiana's No. 1 ranked team. Springboro (5-4) was within 27-20 late in the first half, but could not keep pace. Nick Pluta scored 11 and sophomore Garrett Powell 10 for Springboro, which will meet Evansville Bosse in today's consolation game of the North Central Holiday Tournament.

Mason 44, Wilmington 41: The Comets, who led 34-15 at halftime, held off the Hurricane behind Noah Pedelty's 19 points and Matt King's 13 rebounds.

National Trail 56, New Miami 28: National Trail (6-2) won its fifth in a row with a 39-5 run beginning late in the first quarter. Adam Eyler (15), Dalton Mason (13), Zach Woodall (11) and Peyton Harrison (11) all reached double figures for National Trail.

Northwest 67, Badin 64: Ronnell Turner of Northwest (5-3) came off the bench to score 32 points. Justin Pappas led Badin (3-4) with 17.

St. Henry 57, Coldwater 52: Tyler Schlarman accumulated 26 points and 13 rebounds as St. Henry moved over .500 (4-3). Dylan Thobe and Marcus Bruns scored 12 and 11 for Coldwater.

Xenia 52, Belmont 50: Xenia trailed by seven at halftime, but rallied to win.

Boys Bowling

Sidney 2,512, West Carrollton 1,352: Sidney's Austin Simon recorded just the third 300 game in school history for unbeaten Sidney (6-0, 3-0). It was the first high school 300 and second overall for Simon, who followed up with a 193. Josh Abbott added a 483 series for Sidney.

Springfield 2,251, Lebanon 2,227: Cullen Rogan's 441 series was key for Springfield (2-1, 2-1). Ryan Losekamp led Lebanon (3-5, 0-3) with 425.

Fairbanks 1,994, Greeneview 1,618: Steven Ross led Greeneview with 348. Keith Boggs (335) was tops for Fairbanks.

Girls Bowling

Lebanon 2,074, Springfield 1,895: Mia Kordowski helped Lebanon (5-3, 1-2) to its first GWOC victory with her 436 series. McKenzie Dixon led Springfield (0-2, 0-2) with 394.

Sidney 1,968, West Carrollton 1,377: Jenna Beatty's career-high 456 and a 394 from Heather Gold lifted Sidney (2-4, 2-1).
