Freshman pitcher Mike Roe is a second-generation player for the Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball team.
His father, Mike Roe Sr., played for the Norse from 1980-82, and is still ranked seventh all-time in career batting average at .376.
The younger Roe got his NKU career off to a good start on Sunday, Feb. 21 when he pitched a perfect 1-2-3 eighth inning against Montevallo.
Roe, a 6-foot-4, 204-pound right-hander, entered the game in a 13-9 hole and struck out the first batter he faced. He then induced back-to-back flyouts to end the inning.
The Norse couldn’t pull out the win, however, losing the rubber match of the three-game series to fall to 1-2.
• Chase Stewart (Edgewood) pitched two-thirds of the seventh inning for NKU on Sunday, giving up two runs on two hits before getting out of the jam.
Stewart, a senior, is in his first year at NKU. He came from Miami University, where he compiled a 5-7 record in 50 appearances, including 10 starts and 56 strikeouts in three seasons.

• Freshman Tony Peters (Middletown) has played in 25 games with 19 starts for Grand Valley State this season.
He’s totaled 58 points in his playing time on 19-of-63 field goals, including seven 3-pointers, and 13-of-16 free throws.
Peters also has 25 rebounds, 16 assists, five steals and three blocks.
• Sophomore Braxston Campbell (Carlisle) has scored 17 points in 11 appearances this season for Transylvania University. He also has four steals.
Women’s indoor track

The meet consists of five events: the 55-meter hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump and 800 run.
Amburgey placed fourth overall with a 2,549 point total, which broke the previous record of 2,496 points set by Lainey Kekic last season.
