HS Roundup 1/29: Fairmont girls get revenge in win versus Wayne

Fairmont handed visiting Wayne its first loss in conference play, 54-34, in a huge Greater Western Ohio Conference girls basketball matchup on Wednesday.

Madeline Westbeld scored 15 points, Madison Bartley added 14 and Kierra Thornton 10 to pace Fairmont, which pulled even with Wayne in the GWOC American division standings.

The victory pushed Fairmont 17-2 overall and 9-1 in conference play. It also avenged a 51-49 loss to Wayne from Dec. 7.

For Wayne the loss snapped a seven-game win streak. Wayne fell to 17-2 overall and 9-1 in league.

Each team has three conference games remaining.

Fairmont will host Beavercreek, travel to Centerville and host Miamisburg to wrap up the season.

Wayne will play at Centerville, host Springboro and finish at Springfield.

Girls Basketball

Badin 69, Northwest 21: Lizzy Meyer chipped in 23 points, including five three-point baskets, and Badin reached a season-high for points. Mickayla Kowalski added 11 points for Badin.

Beavercreek 45, Northmont 36: Anna Landing totaled 12 points and Trinity Bean added 11 for ‘Creek. Katie McCrary paced Northmont with 13 points.

Bellefontaine 47, Kenton Ridge 40: Hannah Rader tallied 25 points to lead Bellefontaine.

Centerville 60, Springfield 19: Cotie McMahon recorded 18 points and Centerville improved to 8-2 in conference play.

Greenville 42, Xenia 39: Morgan Gilbert hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to give Greenville the win.

Lakota East 63, Middletown 43: Claire Vogelmann scored 14 points to lead Lakota East and Madison French added 13 off the bench. Aryanna Ingram paced Middletown with 13 points.

Lebanon 57, Trotwood 53: Lindsey Sauerland finished with 18 points and Bella Dunn and Sam Feldmann tacked on 10 apiece to pace Lebanon.

Springboro 50, Miamisburg 33: ‘Boro, which improved to 15-4 overall, secured the GWOC National division title with the victory. Anna Long paced Miamisburg with 13 points.

Talawanda 58, Edgewood 55: Kylee Fears carried Talawanda with a double-double performance of 24 points and 15 rebounds. Sophie Pohlabel added 15 points and Kyra Koontz 13. Callie Hunt and Zoe Stephen scored 17 points apiece for Edgewood.

Tecumseh 80, Springfield Shawnee 36: Terah Harness poured in 24 points with seven rebounds and six assists to lead Tecumseh. Gabrielle Russell added 15 points and Lyndsey Back had 12.

Tippecanoe 57, Fairborn 28: Tippecanoe, with a 15-0 record in conference play, secured at least a share of the Miami Valley League Miami division title with a ninth consecutive victory.

Troy 49, Sidney 42: Macie Taylor and Tia Bass each tallied 21 points with Bass hauling in 20 rebounds to help Troy win a sixth straight contest. Allie Stockton put up 15 points for Sidney.
