HS Roundup 5/7: Northmont cruises in sectional opener

D.J. Shepherd and Anna Mangen each blasted a home run in Northmont’s 16-2 win versus Piqua in the opening round of Division I softball sectional play.

Cassy Lewis picked up the win on the mound, striking out 13 and helping her own cause with three hits and three RBI.

Northmont advances to face Springfield on Wednesday.

Sectional Tournament

West Liberty-Salem 13, Twin Valley South 3: Levi Moell and Jacob Vanhorn each went 3-for-4, Thomas Allen was 2-for-3 and Trevor Burden had one hit with three RBI to help WLS advance to the second round of sectional play.

Troy Christian 3, Greeneview 2: Troy Christian rallied with a run in the fifth and seventh innings after falling behind by a score. Jon Brakeall tallied two hits for Greeneview and Mitchell Hines took the tough luck loss.

Regular Season

Lebanon 3, Carlisle 2: A.J. Fritz singled in two runs in the bottom of the seventh to lead Lebanon to a walk-off victory. Lebanon trailed 2-0 entering the final frame.

Beavercreek 1, Springboro 0: Joey Riedel plated the lone run for ‘Creek in the top of the sixth inning. Mitch Sumner, Cody Hocker and Ethan Tedder combined on the shutout.

Tecumseh 9, Northeastern 6: Davey Berner and Hunter Elam each tallied a double and two RBI, Blais Hale added a pair of hits and Gavin Wasson picked up the win on the mound for Tecumseh.

Tri-County North 4, Greenville 1: Chandler Sproles had three hits, including a double, and two RBI to pace TCN, which scored all four runs in the top of the seventh inning for the rally win.

Anna 5, Kenton Ridge 4: Carter Elliott, Zach White and Caleb Kauffman each had a double for Anna and Noah Iler earned the win on the mound. Bailey Armentrout recorded a double for Kenton Ridge.

Delphos Jefferson 20, New Knoxville 10: Delphos put the game away with an eight run inning. Jonah Lageman and Jack Bartholomew each had three hits for New Knoxville.

Softball

Sectional Tournament

Xenia 6, Beavercreek 1: After falling behind by a run in the second inning Xenia rattled off six unanswered runs to win the sectional opener.

West Liberty-Salem 23, Urbana 1: Kelsey Day led the way for WLS with two doubles, a triple and six RBI. Hallie Strapp added a double and five RBI and Maddie Estes clobbered a two-run home run. Sidney Easter scored the lone run for Urbana.

Blanchester 12, Greeneview 10: Katie Caraway tallied three doubles, Bryce Ratliff added a double with two RBI and Alexa Simpson a triple but Greeneview lost a heartbreaker.

Talawanda 13, Mercy 0: Kyndal Haven totaled two triples and four RBI and Ashley Earick struck out eight and picked up the victory for Talawanda.

Regular Season

Tri-County North 11, National Trail 1: TCN tallied five runs in the second inning and three in the third to take a commanding lead. Makena Laird plated the lone run for National Trail.

Coldwater 18, Elida 4: Coldwater tallied ten runs in the opening inning to cruise to victory. Maddie Steinke picked up the victory on the mound and Molly Steinke, Madissen Geeslin and Maura Hoying each had a pair of hits.

Boys Tennis

Preble Shawnee 5, West Carrollton 0: The doubles duos of Hayden Brown/Austin Carter and Brenden Whisman/Jackson Carter won without allowing a point for Preble Shawnee.

Tecumseh 5, Spg. Shawnee 0: Mitch Foland, Drew Sarihan and Jacob Lewis each won singles matches in straight sets to help Tecumseh finish the regular season with an 18-0 record.

Miami Valley 4, Fairmont 1: Colton Morehart bested Murad Nuwaz in a tiebreak for first singles and Niyanth Reddy added a singles win to lead Miami Valley. Sasa Babic recorded a singles win for Fairmont.

Edgewood 4, Monroe 1: Chris Reiff, David Winter and Matt Volle swept the singles matches in Edgewood’s favor.

Boys Volleyball

Beavercreek 3, Lakota West 1: Parker Mikesch totaled 21 digs, Jarrod Brown added 29 assists with three aces and Riley Bell 13 kills and four blocks for ‘Creek.
