Springfield native Adam Eaton visited Romania on Tuesday and Poland on Wednesday as part of a USO Tour, showing off the World Series championship trophy to troops.

Eaton, a 2007 Kenton Ridge graduate and former Miami University outfielder whose brother Zach is a major in the Air Force, played a starring role for the Washington Nationals in October as they beat the Houston Astros in seven games to claim their first title.

Nationals pitcher Aaron Barrett accompanied Eaton on the trip.

"Being able to connect with our troops -- and support them -- means everything to me," Eaton said on MLB.com. "I come from a military background. Just to be able to give back is important."

Eaton hit .320 with two home runs and six RBIs in the World Series and drove in the final two runs of the game in the ninth inning of Game 7, a game the Nationals won 6-2. The Nationals picked up their option on Eaton after the season, so he will return to them in 2020, playing a fourth straight season in Washington.
