Top Gun Showcase: Tickets remain for Monday’s final session

Top Dayton recruit will play in 7:45 p.m. game

The Top Gun Showcase was allowed by the state to boost capacity from 600 to 700 fans at Vandalia Butler High School, and 50 tickets remain for Monday’s final session, which will include Dayton Flyers recruit DaRon Holmes.

Holmes, the 36th-ranked recruit in the class of 2021 and the highest-ranked recruit this century to sign with Dayton, plays with AZ Compass Prep, which faces Ypsi Prep (Mich.) at 7:45 p.m. in the final game of the event. Compass Prep ranks No. 2 in the MaxPreps.com top 25.

Crestwood Prep (Ontario) plays Bishop Walsh (Md.) at 6 p.m. Fans who buy tickets to Session 3 will get to watch both games.

The Top Gun Showcase was launched by organizers of the Flyin’ To The Hoop event, which was scheduled to take place in January but was cancelled in December because of the COVID-19 situation.

The Top Gun started with four games on Sunday. Bishop Walsh beat International Sports Academy at Andrews Osborne 62-49. Spire Academy beat Crestwood Prep 75-66. First Love Christian Academy (Pa.) beat Premier Academy (Texas) 53-38.

In the final game Sunday, Ypsi Prep beat Dohn Prep 60-48. Ypsi Prep features the No. 1 player in the 2022 class, Emoni Bates. He had 15 points in 16 minutes.

AZ Compass Prep will return to action Monday two days after winning a tournament in Phoenix. It beat BFL Prep, of Seattle, Wash., 70-67 in the final of the Grind Session World Championships.
