Obi Toppin dunked eight times and scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Dayton Flyers to a 98-59 victory against Detroit Mercy on Tuesday at UD Arena.
Dayton (5-3) ended a three-game losing streak, its first of that length since March of 2017. This game ended a streak of four straight games against top-50 teams, but the tough road resumes when Dayton plays at No. 8 Auburn at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Toppin made 10 of 13 shots from the field. He also had 11 rebounds.
Josh Cunningham added 20 points. Jalen Crutcher scored 16. Jordan Davis had 10. Ryan Mikesell scored 10. Trey Landers scored eight.
Dayton shot 69 percent from the field and held Detroit to 35 percent shooting.

Detroit’s Antoine Davis, the second-leading scorer in the country (29.6 points per game), scored 18 points on 6-of-23 shooting. Davis is the son of first-year Detroit coach Mike Davis, the former head coach at Indiana.

Toppin dunked five times and scored 14 points to lead the Dayton Flyers to a 49-29 halftime lead against Detroit Mercy on Tuesday at UD Arena.
Toppin made 7 of 8 shots from the field. Dayton made 20 of 28 shots (71 percent).
All eight of Dayton’s scholarship players scored. Crutcher scored eight points and had five assists. Mikesell scored eight.
Davis had seven. Cunningham scored six. Frankie Policelli scored his first career points on a dunk. Dwayne Cohill and Trey Landers had two points.

Antoine Davis scored 11 points on 4-of-12 shooting for Detroit. The Titans shot 33.3 percent from the field and 36.8 percent (7 of 19) from 3-point range.
