What You Need to Know: Urban Meyer

Urban Meyer investigation: Ohio State Board of Trustees meeting set

The meeting will convene in public session per state law, but the board will hold its discussion behind closed doors in executive session at the Longaberger Alumni House.

Per a university spokesperson:

The investigative team will verbally share its findings to the board today in an informational briefing. The board will not deliberate or discuss any public business or make any decisions today based on the information presented during the session. Today’s briefing is to ensure that board members are adequately prepared to discuss this matter at Wednesday’s meeting.

Meyer has been on leave since August 1 following accusations he mishandled allegations assistant coach Zach Smith had abused his wife in 2015.

In a statement published two days later, Meyer said he had followed all protocols regarding a reported incident in 2015.

The school said at the outset of the investigation an ultimate decision on Meyer’s fate would be made by university president Dr. Michael Drake after consultation with the board.

A date or time for the final decision has not been set.

Also Monday, the Columbus Dispatch reported on the potential punishment for Meyer:

Two sources connected to the investigation said the likely recommendation is a suspension for Meyer. Drake and the board could also opt for a “time served” punishment since Meyer has been removed from football activities for more than two weeks.

Ohio State began practicing August 3 with Ryan Day serving as interim head coach.

The Buckeyes’ first game is Sept. 1 against visiting Oregon State at Ohio Stadium.
