Walt Jocketty explains Reds’ thought process in potential Bruce trade

Cincinnati Reds president of baseball operations Walt Jocketty confirmed to reporters in San Diego the club is interested in trading Jay Bruce.

But he also indicated moving the 29-year-old outfielder is not a given.

What’s the holdup?

"There are clubs that have been engaged on Jay for a while," Jocketty said via MLB.com. "It's basically the same clubs, but no one has really come up and been very aggressive."

After receiving underwhelming returns in several deals in the past year, it’s not surprising the Reds are holding out for a premium prospect for Bruce.

They got burned by that approach with Aroldis Chapman, but there were extenuating circumstances in that case that don't figure to come into play this time.

Jocketty also indicated that with Bruce putting together a career year, the club is looking at getting more now than it would have in a deal that was agreed upon with the Blue Jays over the winter. That one fell apart when a member of the Toronto organization failed a physical.
