Wayne High grad Kinnel wins Big 10 Defensive Player of the Week

Michigan defensive back Tyree Kinnel, a native of Huber Heights and graduate of Wayne High School, was named Big 10 Defensive Player of the Week for his work in the Wolverines’ 36-14 win over Cincinnati Saturday.

The junior returned his first career interception 28 yards for a touchdown. He collected a team-best nine tackles, with eight being solo. He also added his first career tackle for loss and first career sack.

It’s Kinnel’s first Big 10 honor. The last Wolverine to claim Defensive Player of the Week was eventual Browns first-round pick Jabrill Peppers on Sept. 19, 2016.
