Wayne High School graduate Robert Landers earned a champion grade in his first appearance for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Landers, a redshirt freshman, saw action Saturday in a 77-10 victory over Bowling Green at Ohio Stadium. Urban Meyer named him as one of the players who will have a chance to earn more playing time because of the season-ending knee injury starter Tracy Sprinkle suffered in the first half.

Landers made one tackle. On the final play of the first half, he brought down Bowling Green running back Fred Coppet for a loss of five yards.

“Robbie did a really nice job for us,” Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson said. “He played in a little end package we used. He played nose guard. That’s where he’s really good. He’s really squatty in there and really quick. He did some really nice things. I think the elevator’s going up. I think he has a chance to help us down the road.”

Sprinkle update: Sprinkle had surgery Sunday to repair a torn patellar tendon in his knee. Meyer doubts he would have a chance to play in a bowl game at the end of the season.

Sprinkle addressed his injury on Twitter. He wrote, “First thing first, thank God I am here to see another day. Time was invested, endless hours of work was put in and sacrifices were made in order to have the best season I could have. Unfortunately, God has another plan for me. It left me lost, confused, hurt and discouraged. The endless support from everyone is greatly appreciated, and I can’t respond to everyone, but I want you to know that I am thankful. I have faced adversity my whole life, and this one hit me deep. I have faith I will attach rehab like no one else would and return to the game that I love with a vengeance. I love my team, my brothers and my family, and I know WE are still going to have a great season.”

Injury news: Linebacker Dante Booker suffered a sprained knee and is questionable for the 3:30 p.m. game Saturday against Tulsa at Ohio Stadium.
