WEEK 2: Centerville knocks off Lakota West; Wayne battles Moeller

The center of the Southwest Ohio high school football universe shifed Friday after Wayne took down Moeller for  the second consecutive season.

No longer the stomping grounds of Colerain and the big Cincinnati Catholic schools, the region is looking red and black after Wayne's two trips to the state title game  and back-to-back  wins over the Crusaders the last two years. Sophomore quarterback Rashad McKee settled into the quarterback spot, guiding the Warriors  to a 35-17 win.

Centerville pulled away late to knock off visiting Lakota West 52-35 on Friday in high school football.

The Elks (1-1) jumped out early with a pair of touchdown runs from Colin Debord and an interception return for a score by Grant Lugo. Mason Kuhr added a 1-yard TD run and 60-yard kickoff return to give Centerville some breathing room late in the third quarter.

The Firebirds (0-2) brought it to within seven to start off the fourth quarter, but Kuhr and Debord each rushed for a touchdown to thwart another comeback opportunity.

Debord finished with 217 rushing yards.

Trotwood 38, Piqua 6: Rams running back Raveion Hargrove rebounded from a slow start last week to score three TDs on 118 yards rushing. Trotwood held Piqua’s rushing attack to 27 yards.

Alter 51, Thurgood Marshall 15: Holden Rushing dashed 68 yards for Alter’s first of five first-quarter touchdowns.

Beavercreek 14, Carroll 0: Justin Terrell and Cody Hocker had fourth-quarter TD runs, and the Beavers blanked the visiting Patriots for the third time in the last five matchups. Hocker ran for 132 yards, while ‘Creek (2-0) held Carroll to minus-14 yards rushing.

Lebanon 45, Loveland 34: Dakota Allen connected with Zach Barsala for two touchdown strikes, and Allen added a pair of 2-yard TD runs to lead the Warriors (1-1). Senior running back Dawson Wolf rushed 25 times for 134 yards and two scores.

Miamisburg 53, Chaminade Julienne 7: The host Vikings (2-0) rolled up 40 points before the Eagles (0-2) tallied their only score on a Darian Jones TD catch just before halftime. Tony Clark accounted for 118 of Miamisburg’s 348 rushing yards.

Princeton 28, Springfield 21: Daniel Davis’ 36-yard punt return for a touchdown and ensuing two-point conversion catch knotted the game at 21-21 heading into the fourth quarter. Princeton QB Solomon Reed hooked up with Bryce Burton on a 12-yard TD pass with 8 minutes to play for the eventual game-winner. Davis finished with 78 yards rushing and 154 yards receiving for the Wildcats (1-1).

Kings 41, Xenia 7: Xenia (0-2) could not get much offense going as Kings forced four turnovers.

Troy 31, Northwest 14: Sam Jackson, Josh Browder, and Hayden Kotwica each rushed for touchdowns to lead the Trojans (2-0).

Preble Shawnee 34, Twin Valley South 0: Brian Ketring tossed four touchdown passes for the Arrows (2-0).

Madison 21, Monroe 12: Madison (2-0) prevailed despite Monroe’s Alex Bannister scoring on a fumble recovery and a kickoff return.

Dixie 45, Jefferson 6: Clayton Washington, Dakota Grise, and A.J. Shockey each scored twice for Dixie (2-0).

Greeneview 30, Madison Plains 6: Jacob Green rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns for the Rams (1-1).

Mechanicsburg 36, Riverside 6: Dustin Knapp rushed for 198 yards and two second-half scores to lead visiting Mechanicsburg (2-0). Kaleb Romero connected with Drew Meyers on a pair of first-half TD tosses.

Wilmington 26, Greenville 7: Dylan Beaugard broke open a 13-7 lead for the Hurricane in the fourth quarter with an 84-yard touchdown run and a 10-yard score, finishing with 163 yards on the ground.

New Bremen 45, Holgate 20: Avery Powers broke a school record by recording five touchdowns for the Cardinals (2-0).

Fort Recovery 32, Fort Loramie 0: Caleb Martin and Will Homan each threw and ran for a touchdown for the Indians (2-0).

Marion Local 36, McComb 0: Duane Leugers had TD runs of 43 yards and 51 yards and finished with 164 yards rushing for the Flyers (2-0).

Tri-County North 42, Ansonia 7: Tanner Booth rushed for 188 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers (1-1).

Coldwater 20, Delphos Jefferson 6: Cavaliers move to 2-0 as Dylan Thobe’s 53-yard TD pass to Zach Klosterman widened the margin from a 14-6 halftime lead.

Minster 44, Lehman Catholic 21: Bryce Schmiesing had three touchdowns in the first quarter for the host Wildcats (2-0). Bryce Schmiesing rushed for 212 yards in the first half.

Turpin 28, Clinton-Massie 21: Turpin converted a 4th-and-18 play to tie the game midway through the fourth quarter before capitalizing on a 1-yard TD run with 33 seconds left to pull off the win in Clarksville.
