Chilly, blustery today; Freeze Warning takes effect overnight

Anyone heading out to a high school football game will want to bundle up.

The temperature for today in the mid-50s is more than a 20-degree drop from yesterday. Clouds will decrease for mostly clear skies tonight, but temperatures will continue to plunge into the low 30s.

A Freeze Warning will be in effect from 2 to 10 a.m. Saturday for the region, issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Temperatures as low as 32 degrees are expected that will kill sensitive outdoor plants if left uncovered.

Widespread frost will clear by around 9 a.m. on Saturday as temperatures rise to around 59 degrees.

Saturday night will be clear and cold again. Lows will be around 34 degrees, bringing another frosty morning on Sunday.

Sunday will be sunny and a little warmer, with a high near 66 degrees. Patchy frost is expected to clear by 9 a.m. Skies will be mostly clear Sunday night with an overnight low around 41 degrees.

Temperatures will return to the 70s through midweek.
