Greater Number Can Benefit From Free Home Winterization Program

Vectren and Community Action Partnership presented the expanded income guidelines in the free home weatherization program Thursday at a Dayton home where the residents are taking advantage of what this program has to offer.   This isn’t a new program, but this year Vectren has added $2 million to their already existing $1.1 million annual contribution. That means people with household incomes between 200 and 300 percent of the federal poverty guidelines can now take part in the program. Before, only people below 200 percent qualified for free weatherization.   With this expansion, Vectren hopes to winterize about 300 homes this year.   Here’s a breakdown to see if you qualify.   Number of People In Home Yearly Income Before Taxes 1 $30,630 2 $41,070 3 $51,510 4 $61,950 5 $72,390 6 $82,830 7 $93,270 8 $103,710   Today, workers insulated, fixed duct work and installed a new energy efficient furnace, and the homeowners didn’t pay a dime.   “The average home will receive around $5,000 in improvements at no cost to the customer,” said the president and CEO of Community Action Partnership, John T. Donnellan.   These improvements help home owners reduce energy consumption and lower heating bills.   “If you have an outrageous bill that could be a good sign that you need a more efficient furnace, or maybe some insulation needs to be put in your home,” said Don Waymire with the Community Action Partnership.   For more information or to apply to the program, call the Community Action Partnership at 1-800-617-2673.
