WHIO Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek rescued a kitten on May 15 from the farmhouse debris as he surveyed the storm's damage. A video showing him cradling the very young, very frightened young cat was posted to the WHIO website and quickly went viral. In addition to the kitten Wirdzek found, two other kittens were also found alive in the rubble. They have been named Twister, Storm and Lucky, and all are healthy, according to Dobbins family members.
The farm field where two houses once stood before an EF-3 tornado roared through the area is free of debris a week after the May 14 storm.
Seven people survived and were helped from one of the homes on Barber Road after the twister turned their long-standing family farmhouse into a huge pile of rubble. Heavily damaged grain silos are still present on the site, and debris can still be seen wrapped around the few trees dotting the site. Members of the Dobbins family, whose homes once stood on the site, have said they are planning to rebuild.
