1) THE BOOK OF MORMON
The originally scheduled run of “The Book of Mormon” in Dayton in late May was postponed. However, there was no stopping the national tour of the Broadway hit. The Victoria Theatre Association’s Projects Unlimited Star Attraction Series presents the musical Wednesday, Aug. 28 through Sunday, Sept. 1.
“The Book of Mormon” opens at the Schuster Center, Second and Main streets, Dayton, on Wednesday. Show times are 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, with 2 p.m. matinees Saturday and Sunday.

2) AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURAL FEST
The 11th annual Dayton African American Cultural Festival is presented at Island MetroPark, 101 Helena St., Dayton, on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 17 and 18. Dayton Contemporary Dance Company is getting its groove on and the public is invited. The local dance company hosts "Soulfully Funkalicious: All White Party" at Dayton Convention Center, 22 E. "On Golden Pond," which opened on Broadway in 1979, explores the strained relationship between an aging father and his adult daughter. AleFest, the long-running craft beer-tasting event, returns to Dayton Convention Center, Fifth St., Dayton, from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24. Participating local brewers won't be announced until the week before the event. 8) DAYTON FUNK FESTIVAL
The City of Dayton has hosted a series of free outdoors festivals for decades now. Surprisingly, for a place proud of the heritage of hometown musical innovators such as the Ohio Players and Zapp, there hasn't been one dedicated to funk. That has changed this year. The series of jazz, blues and reggae-focused events was expanded to include the Dayton Funk Festival, presented at Levitt Pavilion, South Main streets, between Fourth and Fifth streets, Dayton, on Sunday, Aug. 11.
