When customers stop-in for their free sand tart and other baked goods, Theresa Hammons, Ashley’s Pastry Shop owner, said there will be an opportunity to send a short video clip to Janney to say “good luck and thanks for the memories.” Hammons plans to compile the video messages and personally send it to Janney to watch on the show’s grand finale night.
“Everyone knows how dear Allison Janney has been to this bakery, Ashley’s Pastry Shop,” Hammons said. “So in honor of the final episode, and for her love of our delicious sand tarts, we’re going to be giving away a free sand tart to everyone.”
Ashley’s Pastry Shop is located at 21 Park Ave. in Oakwood.
“So you can sit and enjoy and watch the final episode of ‘Mom,’ while enjoying our delicious sand tarts like the cast and crew have done for the last eight seasons.”
Over the past eight years, Janney, 61, has captured the hearts of Daytonians and viewers across the country as Bonnie Plunkett in the CBS sitcom. Bonnie is the mother of Christy Plunkett, played by Anna Faris. The premise involved the dysfunctional duo attempting to reconcile after years of an estranged relationship that happened while both were struggling with addiction. Janney has received two Emmys for her portrayal.
Janney’s love of sand tart cookies from Oakwood’s Ashley’s Pastry Shop has never been a secret. She once told Dayton.com reporters she would treat the “Mom” crew to sand tarts on set.
“For a while, they thought that I had baked them. I say ‘no, they are from my favorite bakery in Dayton, Ohio,’” the Oakwood-raised star said. “They are absolutely delicious. They are like a delicious snickerdoodle with a meringue on top. They are soft and moist and chewy and so good. My mother used to have them in the house when I was growing up. They remind me of my childhood.”
Send our star, Allison Janney a goodbye thought and enjoy her favorite cookie , our sand tart on us ! Hope to see you tomorrow, while cookies last 😋😋😋 #daytoneats #daytonbakery #bestofdayton
