A downtown destination for gourmet carb cuisine is stepping up its offerings with the recent approval of its liquor license.

Grist, a specialty pasta and bread market at 46 W. Fifth St. at Ludlow Street, has obtained its liquor license. Casey Van Voorhis, co-owner of Grist with her husband Patrick, said the approval means new offerings are coming soon.

Van Voorhis is hoping the eatery can have its shelves stocked with wine within the next two weeks.

“We’ll have some retail offerings and will eventually be doing some wine tasting classes, as well as some pop-up pairing dinners,” Van Voorhis said.

Formerly known as Grist Provisions, the business was previously located in the District Provisions building at 521 Wayne Ave. in the Oregon District before the shop closed in August 2020. It operated as a market that offered pop-up dinners as well as take-home, fine-dining-caliber breads, pastas and other specialty items.

Grist reopened at its current location in February 2021.
