2016 best year ever for Dayton-area home sales

Sales of existing homes in the Dayton area increased 9.5 percent last month, compared to the same period a year ago, and helped lead to the best annual home sales on record, the Dayton Area Board of Realtors reported Tuesday.

A total of 1,175 single-family homes and condominiums were sold last month, compared to 1,073 sales in December 2015.

December posted the highest number of sales and average price versus any other December and contributed to 2016 being the strongest home sales year on record for the Dayton area, according to the DABR.

Total sales for 2016 reached 16,079, up 10 percent from 14,623 in 2015, while both the average sales price for 2016 of $146,786 and the median sales price of $125,900 rose about 5 percent.

Adding in December’s figures, the full year 2016 improved over last year’s record-setting figures in all key areas: average price, median price, sales, and sales volume, the DABR said.
