Air Force Aeronautical Systems Center has new commander

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Major Gen. Thomas J. Owen takes over as commander of the Aeronautical Systems Center this Friday, Aug. 14.

The center, located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, manages more than 556 Air Force, joint and international programs. It also administers an annual budget of $23 billion and employs about 10,000 people at the base and 38 other locations worldwide.

The change of command ceremony is scheduled at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Owen is to receive a third star and will succeed Lt. Gen. John “Jack” Hudson, who is retiring. The Air Force announced the plan in May.

Owen is director of logistics and sustainment for the Air Force Materiel Command headquarters at the base. He joined the Air Force in 1978.

Hudson became commander of the Aeronautical Systems Center in 2005. A pilot and flight instructor, he graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1973.

Maj. Gen. Kathleen D. Close, commander of the Ogden Air Logistics Center at Hill AFB, Utah, arrived at Wright-Patterson to prepare to succeed Owen in his current position.
