Total passenger boardings were 1.15 million in 2013 through November compared to 1.2 million in 2012, a decline of 3.9 percent. Total air cargo was 7,116 tons in 2013 compared to 9,353 tons in 2012, a decline of 23.9 percent.
Airport Director Terry Slaybaugh attributed the decline to reductions in seating capacity by airlines, particularly Southwest Airlines and Delta Airlines.
Southwest has temporarily discontinued service to Tampa, but will restart that flight in January. It also reduced the number of flights to Atlanta from three every day to two.
“I expect the trend to continue,” Slaybaugh said.
Slaybaugh added that Dayton remains generally the least expensive departure airport compared to Cincinnati and Columbus.
