Airstream parent acquires RV makers for $47M

Thor Industries Inc., the parent company of Shelby County-based Airstream Inc., has purchased two Indiana recreational vehicle manufacturers for $47.4 million, company officials announced Monday.

Thor Industries, headquartered in Elkhart, Ind., acquired towable recreational vehicle manufacturer Cruiser RV and luxury fifth wheel recreational vehicle manufacturer DRV through its Heartland Recreational Vehicles LLC subsidiary.

Howe, Indiana-based Cruiser RV and DRV will maintain their current production facilities, work force and management team after the acquisition, officials said.

The two companies had combined sales of about $135 million in 2014. The newly acquired operations will become a part of Thor’s Heartland subsidiary.

In September, Thor announced a $5.9 million expansion at its Airstream subsidiary in Jackson Center that will increase the facility's production and office capacity by 70 percent.

The project will add about 94,000 square feet to Airstream’s existing 134,000-square-foot recreational vehicle plant, located an hour from Dayton in Shelby County.
